Well, the holiday season is over. Lights were taken off the houses, menorahs were carefully wrapped and put away, and trees set on the sidewalks for recycling. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the post-holiday sales! My, I'm really going to miss all those advertisements for cars with really big bows.
I did want to share one picture from my wonderful holiday vacation. The Cancun International Airport really took the true meaning of the holiday season to heart with this year's advertising campaign:
In case you can't read that, the sign says "Merry Shopping and a Happy Instant Gift!" I wish I could also share with you the accompanying Santa-sung jingle that rang through the terminal speakers.
I have to admit that there was something a little refreshing about this campaign skipping over all the nuances and just saying it as the stores meant it to be: buy stuff now. I wonder if things would be any different if we here in the States were to advertisement consumption for consumption's sake so bluntly?
