As you know, New Dream’s mission is to push back against consumerism. We do this work for a variety of important reasons—the most essential being to improve individual well-being and protect the environment.
We’ve heard from many of you that you want to be engaged in taking action at a more profound level. While making changes on an individual and household level are essential, it’s vital to move toward deeper change in our lives and our communities if we really want to shift toward a society focused on "more of what matters."
We invite you to join us in this journey as we boost our efforts to help people become community changemakers, working to build thriving alternatives to consumption-oriented lifestyles.
As New Dreamers, we envision a world in which people…
If we want to achieve our vision for the world—prioritizing connection over consumption—we need to engage and act together to better our neighborhoods, towns, and cities.
For 2018, we’ve created a simple plan: we’re going to issue a series of concrete action steps every few months that are designed to help you build stronger communities and better love your neighbors, as we work to improve well-being and protect the health of the planet.
We know that most of you live busy lives, and you may not have the time or energy to organize grand community initiatives. So we’ve structured the challenges in a way that gives you a menu of options. From introducing yourself to a new neighbor to starting a neighborhood tool library, you can choose the level of challenge that feels right for you.
And, if you’re feeling really fired up, you can complete all the steps!
New Dream’s online hub will serve as your basecamp for inspiration, knowledge, and support:
While we believe that individual action can create change, we know that the real power lies in collective action.
We hope you’ll join us. While we believe that individual action can create change, we know that the real power lies in collective action. In essence, it’s community building community. And we can’t think of a community that’s better suited for this important work than the New Dream community.
Let’s support one another as we work toward building a world that’s focused on more of what matters—and less of what doesn’t.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks to learn more about our Community in Action Challenge.
