What Is SoKind?

So Kind Sample Registry
A sample family wishlist on SoKind Registry

SoKind is a gift registry service for people who value meaningful experiences, time with family and friends, and offerings of service and support for events and causes that matter the most. As one of the signature campaigns of the nonprofit New Dream, SoKind is a unique tool in the larger effort to prioritize connection over consumption.

What gifts do you truly want? Music lessons? Homemade dinners? A museum membership? Babysitting help? Donations to your favorite charity? Through SoKind, you can register for gifts of time, experience, and skill, as well as traditional material gifts and secondhand items. The registry is entirely customizable, so the possibilities are endless!

SoKind enables you to design a gift registry for any type of celebration, need, or act of service. In this way, your SoKind registry can best reflect your needs, values, and lifestyle choices.

You can use SoKind for:

...and much more!

People around the world are using SoKind to reduce consumption, strengthen their relationships and communities, and lighten their carbon footprints. Since its launch in 2013, 74 percent of gifts given through SoKind have been non-material gifts (charitable donations, experiences, time, gift cards, day-of-event help) or secondhand items.

Why SoKind?

SoKind is a campaign of the nonprofit organization New Dream, which is working toward the larger mission of empowering people to transform the ways they consume in order to improve well-being and protect the planet.

SoKind is a unique registry choice for your special event because it:

  • is the only online registry that allows for gifts of time, experience, secondhand items, funds, charitable donations, and expertise
  • enables you to register for gifts that are environmentally friendly and that reduce your carbon footprint, helping you lighten your impact on the planet
  • includes inspiring resources to help you reduce waste, stress, and debt during key life events
  • has no advertising or paid promotions
  • connects you to a community of like-minded people who share your values
  • is free of charge, although we do ask registrants to consider a pay-what-you-can contribution to support the site.

“A new and improved gift registry aimed firmly at those who value experiences over material goods,  handmade crafts over mass-produced gadgets, and gently used and carefully selected  pre-loved goods over things they’ll probably use once and never see again.”
