In April 2015, New Dream partnered with American University’s Center for Environmental Filmmaking to host a video contest on the theme “Raising Humans, Not Consumers.” The contest winner was "Castaway" by Thiago Bahia, a Brazilian who travels the world making adventure videos.
Thiago finds that people are often jealous of his lifestyle, but he offers the following advice: “Put money aside to do the things you love first before paying for everything else. Otherwise, there’s never any money left for you to spend doing the things you love, like traveling, for instance. You don’t want to be the richest man in the cemetery, nor the one who accumulated the most material things.”
In addition to paying for more travel adventures, Thiago donates a portion of his contest winnings to local charities. With his last prize, he took 25 kids from a local children’s home out to a restaurant for a dinner party.
